Podium finish with Southern All Stars in Russell Thomas Memorial at Sugar Creek
Taking a few weeks off to regroup, Garrett Smith returned to competition close to home at Sugar Creek Raceway (Blue Ridge, Ga.) for the Southern All Stars-sanctioned Russell Thomas Memorial.
Among a strong 36-car field on Saturday night, Smith topped his qualifying group and started on the pole of the $5,057-to-win main event. Leading the first-half of the A-Main, Smith was passed by David Payne with 20 laps remaining. Slipping to third before the checkered flag, Garrett settled for a podium outing.
