Garrett Smith races into Show-Me 100; weathers wild night at Macon Speedway
Kicking off a busy Memorial Day weekend, Garrett Smith joined 63 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series competitors at Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Mo.) on Thursday for the first night of the Show-Me 100.
Starting things off with the $10,000 Cowboy Classic, Smith stopped the clock second-fastest in his group before leading flag-to-flag in his heat race. Starting third in the 45-lap feature, Garrett fell back to 14th when the checkered flag flew.
Once again finding speed early in the evening on Friday, Garrett finished runner-up in his heat race to earn a starting spot on the fifth-row. For the $10,000 payday, Smith once again faded throughout the 40-lap feature to finish 22nd.
Locking into Saturday's $50,000-to-win Show-Me 100, Smith started the 80-lap feature from 16th and completed all laps to finish 18th.
Making a stop at Macon (Ill.) Speedway on Tuesday afternoon for the $20,000-to-win Castrol FloRacing Night in America opener, Smith qualified third-quickest out of 27 competitors before winning his heat race. Weathering a wild and hectic 50-lap feature, Garrett ran inside the Top-5 before bad luck struck with just over 10 laps to go. Smith wound up 15th in the running order.
